Classroom Experience

Northwest School of the Arts
(Student Teaching Spring 2013) Charlotte NC
Grades 6-12
For my student teaching experience, I was under the additional challenge of teaching at my old high school, Northwest School pf the Arts. Attending a school and teaching there is a TOTALLY different experience. I had the oppurtunity to work under the supervision of the dept. chair, Bonnie Fraker, who taught me the in's and out's of teaching theatre to students. NWSA is a magnet school that has both a middle and a high school. I had the wonderful opportunity to teach all grade levels ranging from middle school musical theatre and begining theatre. I taught directing, play production, and voice & diction to my high schoolers.
American Renaissance Charter School (2012) Statesville NC
Grades 4-5
My college field experience (Internship) was with the American Renaissance Charter School in Statesville, NC. I had the opportunity to work with two fourth grade and one fifth grade classes, assisting Ms. Amy McCachren with units on Greek theatre for the fourth graders and Shakespeare for the fifth graders.

Redesigning Our Future: National Environmental Summit for High School Students (2012 & 2013) Salisbury NC
Grades 9-12
For one week every summer, high school students from around the country converge at Catawba Colleges' Center for the Environment to work with sustainability designers, scientists and engineers from the Rocky Mountain Institute, as well as Catawba College professors. At Redesigning Our Future: A National Environmental Summit for High School Students, summit leaders provide knowledge and analytical skills that help the students return to their schools and communities empowered to have a tangible impact. I served as a camp counselor for two years.

Catawba College Conservation Camp (2012) Salisbury NC
Grades 6-8
During Summer 2012, I participated as camp counselor for Catawba College's conservation camp. The goal of this program was to provide under served middle school girls with exposure to science and mathematics focused inquiry, investigation, and discovery via a one-week residential summer camp. Program activities included field work, lab sessions, and in-depth study of topics such as species and habitats, invasive species, pollution, over- population, and over-harvesting.
